In 1991 I spent three weeks in Israel covering the Scud missile attacks, then two weeks covering Operation Desert Storm. This coverage took me to six Mid-Eastern nations. Near the end of my reporting, I ended up on a battlefield on the outskirts of Kuwait City. This battlefield is now referred to as, ‘The Highway of Death.’ Here the coalition forces all but annihilated the occupying Iraqi troops (their vehicles overflowing with the plunder of war) as they rolled out of Kuwait City. As I left the smoldering battlefield, the British allies were digging huge trenches in the desert, and dumping the bodies of some three thousand Iraqi combatants into these sandy mass graves. The British, Canadian and American troops, who controlled the battlefield, left no man standing.
